I REALLY REALLY CANT STAND R. KELLY

Today My blog friend Native son has posted an article on his blog Titled R. Kelly please go away. I really cant stand that guy I think he is a rotten role model for kids. I mean the hyper sexuality that has been a trademark of his music is 100% foolishness when you take into account the issues of out of wedlock children black folks have been dealing with and when you factor in the aids statistics in the black community his sex obsessed music is just good old fashioned inappropriate.

Now if he were promoting responsible sex and supperior fatherhood to go along with the Bump and Grind It would be more palatable to me. But when you add in his marraige to a 15 year old child and then his perverted as home pornographic video he allegedly made with a child his non sense becomes more than I can stand.

My fundemental question is the same as Native Son's on this matter why do black people keep giving this f#cking pervert a free pass. If you switch R. Kelly with a Forty year old White Rock star and he humilated a 15 year old black girl would black people be giving that rock star a free pass. I dont think so. Someone please explain to me why the African American community cannot seperate the fact that while undeniably R. Kelly is a genius when it comes to music but on the othe hand as an adult male he is a slimy perveted piece of sh#t.

I used to be a fan but after I saw the child pornography video that he starred & was sickened. Now when I hear his music, I just shut it down. I do not understand why this trial is taking so long to get underway. Some have compared it to Michael Jackson & said that if his skeeted & urinated on a white "girl" this case would have been over years ago & he would still be in jail.

It sucks that so many of "us" support this CLOWN!

I have to agree with both of you, musical genius, yes...pervert, yes...but I still love his music, and he always surprises me with a new cut, something totally new and ingenious. Alot folks want us to stop listening and buying his music, even though i haven't purchased much, if at all, i still enjoy his cuts!

there isn't anything left to say that you didn't already say, mark.

DC sometimes I think I am extremely wierd when I debate black folk on these issue.

With all of the money that son of a b#tch has he could have had all of the beautiful 18 years olds who look like 15 year olds he wanted but he choose to humilate a baby.

Now Ill keep it real as a man I love women but 15 anything under 18 is banned forever.

Hmm, and I thought I was the only one. Whenever I hear R. Kelly on the radio, I say, "Nope. Can't listen to pedophile music," and promptly change the station.

Interestingly enough, I've never liked R's music, even before the stuff about his personal life came to light. No disrespect meant toward those of you who do enjoy him . .. but to me, he does more talking and hollering and whining on his cuts than he does acutal singing (LOL).

Im going to write a piece stating how some of these rappers are every bit as much geniuses as John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong and Frederick Douglass Ida B Wells.

If Jay Z would put his genuis towards creating music that was vicious but still clean he could literally save lives. If it was provacative and authentic enough to be rocked by even those of us black people struggling the most it could have a powerful impact on peoples thinking and later behavior.

Biggie was genuis, Jay Z is a genuis, every bit much as marvin gaye who if I had to pick someone besides ella as bieng a genuis it would probably be Marvin Gaye. To keep it real I could write a post about Marvin Gaye that would sicken you also. Although Marvin will deffinately get a pass and never be seen a worm like R. Kelley.

Marvin Gayes wife was 14 when he first started banging her. The girls mother encouraged it.

None of this excuses R. Kelleys behavior that pervert could afford the best proffesional counseling for whatever his demons he had. And if folks are so screwed up that they have to get thier jollies off peeing on 14 year old girls then I dont care what theyve been through they at least have do time(possibly in a Counselling prison), do massive amounts of community service and after I dont mind if he continues making records.

But purely from an artist stand point R. Kelley is every bit a genious as Marvin Gaye, Loius Armstrong, Michael Jordon or Barry Sanders.

He just happens to be a child molestor and that shouldnt be tolerated he should be sentenced to rehab and then made to do serious community service as his sentence. The guy has daughters who are getting close to the age of his victim for heavens sakes.

I meant to say that if I had to choose another singer as greatest singer of all time it would be Marvin gay although I do understand that my saying that is subjective. But I believe a strong argument can be made to influence this statement.

mark bey: I strongly agree with you as far as Im concerned geniuswise R. Kelleys lives in the same nieghborhood as Duke Ellington, Dinah Washington, Michael Jordan. He is every bit as much a great artist as LeoNardo or Michaelangelous.

Good point. Marvin and R may very share some of the same kind of "demons" (R's word). Although, I thought Marvin's girlfriend/wife was 16 or thereabouts . . . not that it makes his actions any better.

But when it comes to a musical comparison, I guess I'm just too old school to go there (smile). Really, I don't hear/see genius when I listen/review R's body of work. Not even close. But I will concede that a lot of others do (though, mainly those within a certain age bracket).

When it comes to applying the label of "genius" to hip hop artists, I should probably just gather up my old school cards and trek back to my own playground . . . because other than Biggie, Tupac and possibly the Roots, I just don't see it.

Brother, I couldn't agree with you more. I believe that Kelly should have been prosecuted after he molested Aliah. And you can't get me to understand why black folks feel like it's okay to support this dude.

Let me tell you how smart this fellow is. After the whole child sex tape came out, he started releasing feel good music, like "I'm the World's Greatest" and "He Saved Me". Well, I guess black folks have proven to have the shortest memory span. Because most blacks just forgot all about that tape and they started singing right along with Kelly again. But some will argue that blac folks never stopped singing with him.

Again, I was disgusted with Kelly back when he married the underage Aliah.

mark bey: Lori I can understand why you feel the way you do R. Kelly's music I didnt like his music for a long time.

When you say "old school" please remember that the older generation usually dosent embrace the music and culture of younger generation for a while.

When bebop first came out Louis Armstrong (one of the greatest singers in the history of music) couldnt relate to it posibly because the music was so evolved from the time when he was a kid in New Orleans.

Also my parents have made the statement you young people dont know what's good for this would have been back in the 80's but I also have read in richard rights "black boy" during the 1920's an older women say that to richard right when he was a child.

Basically the older generations throughout time love to romanticize about how much better and more civilized the times they grew up in were.

When it comes to applying the label of "genius" to hip hop artists, I should probably just gather up my old school cards and trek back to my own playground . "

mark bey: Lori I assure thier were some old school cats who were saying this about motown in the early 60's.

If langston hughes, alice walker and Niki giavonni are genuises then so can a rapper. However not all or even most rappers are genuises. But Jayz is deffinately an artist and a genuis and so are a few other rappers.

mark bey: We support r.kelly for the same reason we supported OJ even though it was obvious OJ could care less about black people. Do you think Oj has spent anytime since his trial working on behalf or thinking about the plight of black people.

mark bey: He may be Lola but Im not just talking about a straight out comparison in styles.

Im also talking about the ability to sing, produce, write and perform. Thier is als consistancy although I didnt like him at first you have to admit that he has shown consistancy in keeping in touch and modern. R. Kelley is connected to music in ways other artist arent.

It is my oppinion that he is a genuis although he has never been anything close to bieng my favorite artist.
